From concept to canvas: my artistic journey

My artistic journey often begins with a delightful chaos. Ideas are born and nurtured in my sketchbook, where I explore forms and compositions. However, once I'm ready to paint, I embrace spontaneity. I don't fuss over perfect lighting or a specific viewpoint; instead, I focus on the objects themselves, especially in my still life paintings, allowing them to dictate the narrative.

A unique blend of technique and intuition

My techniques for watercolour and oil paintings are a magical mix of innate observational drawing skills and structured approaches. This unique combination allows me to create art that is both detailed and expressive. You'll see this come through in the blend of lines, colours, and ideas that unfold on each canvas, offering a fresh perspective on traditional still life and floral subjects.

The joy of drawing from life

I want you to understand that my process is deeply rooted in sketching from life. There’s very little "making things up" until the later stages, which allows for a relaxing and authentic experience drawing the things I truly love, like flowers and ceramics. This approach leaves ample room for creativity and fun, ensuring each piece carries a genuine connection to its subject.

"Pip Ball Art's paintings capture the essence of everyday beauty with such grace. Knowing the artist sketches from life makes each piece even more special."
